Report unsatisfactory practices in the agricultural and food supply chain

Report unauthorized practices in the agricultural and food supply chain

At SCPA we urge you to report unauthorized practices in the supply chain of agricultural and food products.

Slovenian Competition Protection Agency (SCPA) has a very important mission in Slovenian society, as with a total of 32 employees it prevents various restrictive practices on the market, most often in the field of certain agreements between companies, the aim of which is to prevent, limit or otherwise distort "healthy" and welcome competition between them. An important task of SCPA's employees is also the assessment of concentrations between companies in takeover and merger procedures, as well as determining whether some acquirer may have "forgotten" to notify concentrations, even if the legal conditions for notification have been met.

SCPA representatives are constantly educated in the field of competition law, which also includes cartel law and concentration law, as we attend numerous events and lectures and cooperate with the most recognized and established organizations in this field, such as ECN and ICN (European and International Competition Network), as well as with ECA (Association of European Competition Regulators) and in the Competition Committee of the OECD, the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development.

To protect farmers and smaller suppliers, it is necessary to ensure constant supervision over the actions of stakeholders in the supply chain of agricultural and food products with the aim of preventing and limiting unfair trading practices or prohibiting the use of certain contractual terms that are considered unfair and unlawful even if both parties agree to them. Thus, based on the Food Act, the SCPA is responsible for supervising the implementation of this Act and for administratively sanctioning unlawful actions in the supply chain of agricultural and food products. The Act defines as unlawful those actions by which a buyer with significant market power exploits a supplier in a manner contrary to good business practices. You can find out more about the SCPA's activities in this area at the link and in the attached poster.
