Andrej Matvoz: "The Budapest Conference provided the latest trends and numerous practical examples"

The Hungarian Competition Ombudsman, with the assistance of the Hungarian Competition Law Association, organized the 8th Hungarian Competition Law Forum today, March 19, 2026, in Budapest, with the title "National, EU and Global Aspects of Competition Law".

This year's conference coincided with the 35th anniversary of the Hungarian Competition Authority (GVH). On the occasion of the anniversary of the GVH, the institution he heads, Csaba Balázs RIGÓ highlighted their commitment to protecting competition and consumers, as well as the importance of enhanced cooperation between competition authorities of different countries.

The conference in Budapest was attended by the highest representatives of Hungary, including former presidents of the GVH, and numerous directors of various state competition protection institutions. Andrej Matvoz, Director of Slovenian Competition Protection Agency (SCPA), actively participated in the round table entitled "Cooperation of institutions in the field of competition protection", and said: "The conference in Budapest provided numerous practical examples in the field of competition protection. Such exchanges of experience can be useful in the further work of the SCPA, where we strive to operate in accordance with the latest trends and practices in the field of competition protection."

Speakers at the Budapest conference included Andrew N. Ferguson of the US Federal Trade Commission, Ferenc Vissi, the first president of the Hungarian GVH, Igor Pospišil, director of the cartel department at the Czech Competition Authority (UOHS), former president of the Portuguese Competition Authority Margarida Matos Rosa, Zoltán Hegymegi-Barakonyi, president of the Hungarian Competition Law Association, Mirta Kapural, president of the Croatian Competition Authority (AZTN), and Mexican Commissioner for Competition Ana María Resendíz Mora.
