On November 22, 2021, Professor Thibault Schrepel (VU Amsterdam/Stanford) — creator of the computational antitrust project — gave a virtual lecture to the Slovenian Competition Protection Agency on the interactions between blockchain and competition law. First, Professor Schrepel introduced blockchain technology and explained governance commonalities. Then, he continued exploring the impact blockchain creates on cartels and abuses of dominant positions before discussing how blockchain could help competition agencies, both in terms of substance (by eliminating coercive capabilities) and form (by informing agencies' daily work). He concluded his lecture with a discussion of different policy options.
The Slovenian Competition Protection Agency expresses its gratitude to Professor Schrepel and looks forward to engaging with market players on this issue.
